TAMPA, FL — Here's a look at Monday's boat parade and champs celebration to honor the Tampa Bay Lightning's second consecutive Stanley Cup championship. Tampa Bay Economic Development Council In what's become a Tampa tradition, Tampa Bay Lightning fans lined up along the Hillsborough River Monday to watch a parade of boats carrying members of the Lightning. "We have this natural resource," Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said. "The river and bay are the center of Tampa Bay, and to celebrate with a boat parade makes sense. What other hockey town can have a boat parade to celebrate? It'll give everyone a chance to get a close-up view of the Stanley Cup." Similar boat parades were held in September 2020 when the Lightning won the Stanley Cup at the height of the coronavirus pandemic and again in February when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl. Lightning team members, coaches, officials with the Vinik Sports Group, including Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik, and city and county officials boarded boats at Davis Islands, parading five miles along the river to Rick's on the River. The celebration continued at the 2,880-square-foot Tampa River Center at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park with food trucks, beverages, music by Vo Williams and Big Boi, and members of the team taking center stage to thank their fans. "We are so proud of our Tampa Bay Lightning," Hillsborough County Commission chairwoman Pat Kemp said. "This is such a great victory, and we're celebrating it big-time."
