Join Deb and Ricky of Seeds of Solidarity for a hands-on workshop to learn how to extend your garden’s growing season well into the fall.
Not ready for the growing season to end? Join us for a roll-up-your-sleeves workshop with the engaging Deb and Ricky of Seeds of Solidarity Farm and Education Center. Their nonprofit, based in Orange, MA, awakens the power of people of all ages and walks of life to grow food everywhere and create resilient lives and communities.
Deb and Ricky will show you how to grow food on either side of the traditional spring/summer garden window, in spite of our cold winters. They’ll share cold-climate seed suggestions, show how to make and use row covers, and how to use milk jugs to start your seedlings when temperatures dip. You’ll also learn how to use a hoop bender to create the framework for a low tunnel from inexpensive metal tubing, another easy technique to protect crops. Bring a piece of tubing (we’ll give you the details upon registration) and you can get a start on your own frame.
Come ready to dig in! We’ll be planting seedlings in the Rhinebeck Community Garden’s food pantry plots (the produce will go to those in need). You’ll leave with cold-hardy seedlings to start at home and be equipped with loads of knowledge and insights to apply to your garden—in every season.
Capacity is limited and registration is required. The workshop is suitable for ages 12 and up. Cost for this workshop is $10. All proceeds will be donated to Rhinebeck food pantries. Any questions about the event? Contact Kaitlin Doherty, [email protected]
