Description
Adaptive Sports Showcase of Athletes, COVID-19 Experiences Open Mic, Keynote Speakers, On-site Food/Drink/Vendors, and more! With dedication to the health & safety of all attendees and in consideration of updated COVID-19 guidance, we're bringing all of this year's event programming to ONE location at Schenley Plaza instead of the usual "crawl" through Oakland. So in addition to gathering, meeting, and hearing from advocates, speakers, and local business owners under the Tent at Schenley Plaza, this year's attendees will also have the opportunity to learn from our Adaptive Sports Showcase of Athletes featuring wheelchair basketball, rugby, racing athletes and more. There will also be plenty of food & drink specials, vendor tents, music, and more – all without having to leave Schenley Plaza and Schenley Drive Extension (which will be closed to traffic for our use throughout the event). Attendees will also be given the chance to share their own stories of resilience and adaptation during the COVID-19 pandemic through our Open Mic "COVID-19 Experience" segment. Speakers will be given about 3 minutes each to share their story. To keep us on schedule, space is limited, so be sure to arrive early and sign up to participate at the registration booth! Our speaker lineup is still being finalized, but we expect to have several local leaders in attendance who can speak on the passage of the new federal infrastructure bill (which includes dedicated funds for accessible transportation initiatives) and PA Senate Bill 890 enhancing job access for persons with disabilities. We are honored to have Reverend Sally Jo Snyder returning as our emcee this year, helping to keep our packed schedule of events, speakers, and showcases running smoothly and inspiring us with stories along the way. We'll also be honoring this year's Business Champion, the Carnegie Library's LAMP (Library of Accessible Media) for Pennsylvanians presented to Mark Lee. Vendors tables are also being finalized, but are expected to include UPMC Disability Resource Center, University of Pittsburgh Disability Resource Center, All of Us Pennsylvania, Disability Options Network, PAAC, Venture Outdoors Adaptive Programs for Persons with Disabilities, and more! Music under the tent is being sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh, and food/drinks will be available on-site from food kiosks sponsored by The Porch at Schenley, Asia Tea House, Tres Amigos, Waffallonia, and more. Thanks goes out to all of this year's growing list of participants, partners, and sponsors, including the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Port Authority of Allegheny County, University of Pittsburgh, The Porch at Schenley, Oakland Transportation Management Association, Oakland Business Improvement District, Facture Consulting, and many, many more.
