PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield's Kiddie Academy is hosting a storytelling event for children July 17 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Storytime LIVE! is a free event put on by the early learning center, at 13703 Illinois Route 59, to combat boredom. July is dubbed National Anti-Boredom Month, which is supposed to encourage everyone to figure out what induces boredom and find ways to fight it.
Organizers at Kiddie Academy said they hope families will use this time to ease back into school environments and socialization after the past year and a half of virtual learning.
"During the past 16 months, our local communities became more important than ever before," CEO Greg Helwig said in a statement. "We're committed to being there for local families in their times of need, so we can keep normalcy, learning and socialization ongoing. That's why we're so excited to have families and children spend a day of their summer with the Kiddie Academy community, whether in person or virtually."
According to the National Day Calendar, boredom may occur even when people have things to do, but those activities might not stimulate the mind.
Alan Caruba created National Anti-Boredom Month in the 1980s as part of his ongoing boredom-themed efforts.
