Oak Forest To Get Rid Of Former Pool Supplies

OAK FOREST, IL — The Oak Forest City Council unanimously agreed to get rid of the supplies left behind at the Oak Forest Community pool. Items will either be sold, auctioned off and disposed of. The city council approved of the sale and demolition of the former Oak Forest Community Pool at a June city council meeting. The city owned property, located at 5122 Aldersyde Road, was approved for demolition by the Cook County Sheriff's Department Resorting Neighborhoods Workforce (RENEW) at no cost to the city. The pool closed amid the coronavirus pandemic, and infrastructure repairs would have cost the city around $50,000 to operate again. Items include, picnic tables, chairs, umbrellas and pool toys. Tim Kristen, City Administrator, told the city council that much of the property left behind will be disposed of. "Public works is going through what's useful and what's not," Kristen said. "This will allow us to reuse some of the pool property and dispose of it." Kristen said public works began the remediation of the pool today on Tuesday. The former pool has had an operational deficit for its years in operation, and hasn't generated any additional revenue for the city. The location will sell at the best price, and proceeds from the sale will be placed into the City of Oak Forest's general fund. Stay Patched In!
