NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — At Newtown Borough Council's Tuesday meeting, council members agreed to appoint three of their own to a subcommittee to consider appointing a Borough Manager to oversee the municipality's $4 million annual budget. Council President Tara Grunde-McLaughlin and council members Sue Turner and Julia Woldorf will be part of a working group to form a draft job position for the role. Woldorf said an administrative consultant recently conducted an evaluation of the borough's administrative structure. "They made some recommendations, and one of them was whether we want to switch to a manger council governance," she said. "We need to look at how the borough's being run for the betterment of our community. We are one of very few municipalities our size that don't have at least a part-time manager." Grunde-McLaughlin said the borough hasn't made a decision on whether they will hire a manager. "We've decided it's worth looking into," she said.
