College Of Lake County: CLC Partners With SIU And UCLC For Students To Earn Bachelor's Degree Locally

Press release from College of Lake County: Jul 15, 2021 Fifteen different associate degrees will be eligible for transfer into SIU's industrial management and applied engineering (IMAE) degree program. This partnership creates new bachelor's degree pathways for students completing their associate in applied science degree. "This is an extraordinary effort that hasn't been done before where all of the advanced manufacturing and transportation programs are included in one partnership," said Miguel Mireles, career program manager of the engineering, math and physical sciences division. "It's a tremendous opportunity for career and technical degree students who want to continue down the pathway towards a bachelor's degree." The degrees and certificates that transfer include: Automation, robotics and mechatronics Automotive collision repair non-structural Automotive collision repair refinishing Automotive technology CAD-drafting technology-MEC CAD-drafting technology-GAP Computer science (associate in science) CNC programming Electrical engineering technology Engineering and computer science (associate in engineering science) HVAC engineering technology Laser/photonics/optics Machine tool trades Mechanical engineering technology Welding The partnership, thanks to UCLC, will also keep CLC students local. While students will be dually enrolled at CLC and SIU, all the classes will be at CLC and UCLC. This makes it easier on students who may not be able to travel, including those who need to work while in school or might have other family responsibilities. Keeping the students local for schooling will also help Lake County's economy and workforce keep and retain local talent. "Students who stay in Lake County for school are more likely to stay here and help contribute to the local economy," Mireles said. While most of the careers in advanced manufacturing and transportation don't require a bachelor's degree to get a job in the field and earn a good, family sustaining wage, a bachelor's degree will allow for more upward mobility into management positions within the student's chosen field. When the partnership begins, it will be available to both new CLC students as well as existing program students.
