JOLIET, IL — The Will County State's Attorney's Office issued a news release Thursday afternoon announcing that Arthur Lee Knox of Joliet was sentenced to 15 years of prison for the attempted murder of Knox's former girlfriend Lisa Cummins back in 2016.
The 55-year-old Knox has remained in the Will County Jail since his arrest by the Will County Sheriff's Office on April 4, 2016. Back in February 2020, Will County Judge Ed Burmila found Knox guilty of attempted first degree murder during a bench trial.
Will County prosecutors said that Knox stabbed Cummins multiple times in the neck, shoulder, and abdomen the morning of April 4, 2016, a couple of months after Cummins had ended their relationship.
Knox lived at 419 North Bluff St. at the time of the attack.
"No one should have to live in abject fear because they have ended a relationship—and yet, the risk of extreme violence increases once someone leaves their abuser," Glasgow said in Thursday's news release drawing attention to Knox's 15-year sentence. "It is a miracle that she survived because any single one of the callously inflicted stab wounds could have ended her life. Although he will spend time in prison, nothing can make up for the permanent physical and emotional scarring Ms. Cummins suffered during this barbaric attack."
Glasgow praised the work of Assistant State's Attorneys Alyson Wozniak and Sarah Shutts, as well as Victim Witness Advocate Danette Pasdertz in the case.
The Joliet man will receive a credit of 1,929 days for time served, prosecutors said.
