JOLIET, IL— During any given week in the summer, the Joliet Police Department is summoned to the scene of multiple shootings. Thursday afternoon marked the latest gunfire. No one was injured this time, according to police.
Around 12:10 p.m., a gunman inside a maroon sedan opened fire on someone driving another car along Joliet's west side near the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Douglas Street, according to Joliet police.
The shooter and the car being targeted both sped away from the area before Joliet police cars arrived, authorities said.
"After an extensive search, officers were unable to locate any shooting victims," Joliet police announced.
During the past week:
Joliet police investigated a shooting around 8:15 p.m. last Friday that left a 26-year-old man critically injured. He was shot on the sidewalk in the 600 block of Garnsey Avenue and suffered several gunshot wounds. Around 9:05 p.m. that same night, another gunman opened fire on a house in the 500 block of Campbell Street. Nobody was injured in the Campbell Street shooting, police said.Around 3:15 p.m. Monday, Joliet officers responded to the 100 block of East Jefferson Street across from the Joliet Slammers ballpark. The windows of two businesses were shattered by gunfire, and an unoccupied car was also struck by the bullets, police said.
