Description
The music of legendary jazz musician Vince Guaraldi is inseparable from the beloved Peanuts animated movies that started in 1964 with "A Charlie Brown Christmas." Guaraldi's iconic piano style characterized the funny, quirky, and sometimes melancholy tone of Charles M. Schulz's popular comic strips. Guaraldi's compositions were as much a character in the films as Linus, Lucy, and Snoopy, and the music gave the animated films heart and humor. In connection with its current exhibit, "To the Moon: Snoopy Soars with NASA," the Elmhurst History Museum will present a free concert, "Fly Me to the Moon: The Music of Vince Guaraldi," on the museum's lawn on Saturday, August 7, 2021. The concert is presented by professional jazz musicians Chris White and Sean Jacobi, two accomplished musicians who are regulars on the Chicago jazz scene. Two sessions of the concert will be presented at 1:00 p.m. (currently sold out) and 2:15 p.m. (reservations still available) and reservations are requested. Room for walk-ins is expected on the day of the concert, so interested participants are encouraged to watch the museum's web site and social media for the latest information. Tickets can be reserved at elmhursthistory.org/320/Programs. Admission is free. Ticket holders should bring a lawn chair for seating, and Kilwin's Ice Cream will be on site with ice cream for sale. Concertgoers can view "To the Moon: Snoopy Soars with NASA" on the day of the concert, which continues its run through August 29, 2021. The exhibit tells the story of Snoopy's role in NASA's Manned Flight Awareness safety program and shares Snoopy's connection to the crew of Apollo 10, known as the "dress rehearsal" for the July 1969 moon landing. An additional pop-up poster exhibit from the Smithsonian's traveling exhibits program, "Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission," is also available to view on the museum's east lawn. Celebrate the signature music of the Peanuts gang at the Elmhurst History Museum on August 7th. The Elmhurst History Museum is located at 120 E. Park Ave. in downtown Elmhurst. Admission to the museum is free and more information can be found at elmhursthistory.org.
