BOLINGBROOK, IL — Malik Binns, a right-handed pitcher who graduated from Bolingbrook High School in 2017, was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday.
The 6-foot-7, 220-pound baseball player, who went on to play baseball at Benedictine University, also made history as the first player in the program's 5 years to get drafted to the MLB.

He struck out 55 batters this season and walked 36 in 55 innings, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. A pitcher this summer for the Kingsport Axmen in the Appalachian League, which is now one of the MLB's collegiate summer baseball leagues, Binns is also the first player to be drafted from the program as well.
