Job Title: Warehouse Team Member Shift: 530AM-2PM Reports to: Warehouse Manager Status: Non-Exempt WHO WE ARE Feeding San Diego comprises an ambitious team of individuals who believe that we can solve hunger in our community. At the same time, we protect the environment through the rescue of safe and wholesome food that would otherwise go to the landfill — simply because it is excess product, does not adhere to market standards or is approaching a best by or use by date. Together with our partners, Feeding San Diego provided over 26 million meals last year and served 63,000 children, families and seniors each week. JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Warehouse and Food Safety Manager, the Warehouse Team Member provides operational and administrative support in the safe distribution of food to those facing hunger in San Diego. This includes receiving and order pulling duties, as well as assisting the Warehouse and Food Safety Manager in administering cycle counts, record keeping and information management for all receiving and distribution of food and non-food items. These tasks are to be completed following all personal safety and food safety regulations. The Warehouse Team Member may be required to complete other tasks as assigned by the Warehouse and Food Safety Manager in support of Feeding San Diego’s mission. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following duties and responsibilities are those considered to be essential but do not represent all job functions that may be required to be performed by this position. • Unload trucks using a forklift while utilizing strict adherence to receiving SOPs. Ensure accurate weight and/or conduct accurate case counts for all incoming product using the forklift, floor scale and calculator. • Complete receiving process and paperwork to ensure food safety of product and accurate calculations of quantity received. • Calculate required pounds of product using order specific information and a calculator. • Provide operational support to volunteer staff by stocking volunteer area with product using forklift. • Perform daily inspection of equipment (forklifts, scissor lift, and pallet jacks) based on check sheet. • Pull daily orders accurately based on pick lists and stage completed orders in lanes based on order specific instructions and outgoing truck schedule. • Maintain accurate and complete recordkeeping (i.e. temperature logs, donation receipts, maintenance logs, etc.), according to FSD requirements. • Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. • Ensure first-class customer service with community partners, member agencies and volunteers. • Communicates with the Warehouse and Food Safety Manager and other warehouse staff in regard to inventory variances or breaches of internal controls and procedures. • Assist the Warehouse and Food Safety Manager in determining and coordinating the monthly and weekly cycle count processes, record keeping, data collection, and information management for all receiving and distribution of food and non-food items. • Perform cycle counts of inventory based on cycle count schedule. • Coordinate with the food sourcing, volunteer, and programs teams to ensure efficient and effective movement of product. • Perform general cleaning tasks as assigned by cleaning schedules and SOPs, using scissor lift and floor scrubber as needed. • Help to establish a continuously food safe warehouse by ensuring that all processes are maintained based on cleaning standards. • Other duties as assigned by the Warehouse and Food Safety Manager. INTERACTION The position will interact closely with all Distribution Center staff and provide information to donors, potential donors, individuals in need, volunteers, agency representatives, FSD staff and others from the community. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None EDUCATION/ YEARS EXPERIENCE Minimum: • Experience working in a warehouse environment. Preferred: • High School diploma or GED. • 2 years of experience working in a warehouse environment including shipping/receiving, material handling, multi-tasking, and the preparation and maintenance of reports and records. • Food handler’s safety certificate. • Success using an inventory system. • Experience in a nonprofit environment. Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the preferred education/experience would qualify for consideration of this position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge: • General nonprofit organizational practices, food storage processes, record keeping and filing systems, basic mathematical functions. Skills: • Operate a forklift, pallet jack, scissor lift, and dolly safely • Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. • Perform tasks in Microsoft Word and Excel at an intermediate level Abilities: • Communicate orally and by writing in English • Organize work for others • Learn new technology • Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines without close supervision • Show integrity to complete tasks according to standard operating procedures with little supervision • Work with others who are from diverse backgrounds and have differing opinions • Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, volunteers, partners, and clients. • Sense and abate safety hazards TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Fork lift, electric pallet jack, manual pallet jack, dolly, scissor lift, computer, multi-line phone, copier, printer LICENSES/ CERTIFICATIONS Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to obtain and keep a forklift and electric pallet jack certification (training will be provided). PHYSICAL, MENTAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: • Perform work in a warehouse, which may occasionally create an exposure to dust and pollens. • Perform work in a cooler and freezer. • Sit and/or stand for extended periods, walk, bend at the waist and knees, kneel and uses hands, arms and legs for dexterity • Climb stairs frequently • Maintain balance • Sit for prolonged periods of time • Regularly lifts, carries and balances objects weighing up to 50 pounds. • Pulls and pushes such objects as file drawers and supplies. • The noise level in the work environment varies and can be considered moderate.
