Farm Hand Organic Pasture-based livestock farm
Jobs
Junction City OR
Description
Want to work outdoors with animals on a beautiful organic farm with great team members? Our farm is located West of Junction City Oregon on 300+ acres of fertile soil that houses and feeds heritage cattle, pigs, chickens, sheep and goats. We also produce sweet creamy raw milk, butter & cheese, along with fresh veggies, fruit and nuts. This position has some advantages and drawbacks, first the drawbacks; the pay is not a salary that would support a household long term, but it is better than minimum wage at $13/hr to start, unless you already have experience, then we can negotiate and for longer term employees, 1 year or more, wage increases are negotiable. For a person looking to grow their skills and resume, or maybe would like to start a farm of their own someday the rewards can be significant: • Learn about care, health & wellness of many species of livestock. • Learn to milk cows and make dairy products. • Bring products to the farmers market. • Build muscle and endurance working outside in clean fresh air. • Be part of a regenerative and sustainable farming movement • Produce delicious and health food for the community. Here is what the farm can offer you: • The farm is located on 300+ acres of green rolling hills and fertile soil, just being on the farm is a healthy experience. • The farm team is made up of diverse and intentional folks that really care about what they are doing. • The farm is small enough to give good care but produces enough food to feed many families with healthy organic food, you will have access to that bounty with a healthy discount and after time a free food credit. What we are looking for: Team member that is reliable, hardworking, and flexible. On a farm things do not always go as planned, we need folks that are willing to go where needed and be open to the experience. We also need you to show up consistently, calling out is a bummer for everyone, after all this is a “labor” job, if you do not show up, someone else will need to pick up the extra load, for team spirit’s sake, showing up for the shift is imperative. We want all of our team members to be strategists, the farm works best when everyone’s minds are on the goal of efficiently working to deliver the best possible attention to the animals under our care. In addition to be a good strategist we also want our farm team members to be able to follow systems and processes; there are some processes that have been honed over our lifetime of farming that have proven to be useful, sometimes even lifesaving. In the spirit of following processes when you reply to this advertisement, we want you to write “I am your next Organic farm hand” in the subject line, this is our way to separate out those folks who are sending out a blanket resume and those that are truly interested in what this position has to offer. We are looking to bring our new farm team member on as soon as possible, but we will spend the necessary time to find the best fit both in abilities and culturally.
