Beware of Boxer seller

I answered an ad for a "Female Boxer Puppy" with a good description and some cute photos. I didn't see any red flags with her ad. I sent the seller a reply and asked what her rehoming fee was. They said $350. I asked to buy her. They wanted to meet at Home Depot, in Sevierville, TN, last night. I told them, it was going to be pretty late, since I had to wait for my daughter to get to my house to accompany me. We drove 1 1/2 hrs down there. We decided to stop for gas and money, about 5 miles, from Home Depot. Since this place looked well lit and safer, than the parking lot, at the soon closing Home Depot. I texted them with the new meeting place. I started to get worried, when they didn't answer my texts and my calls went straight to voicemail. After awhile, we headed over to Home Depot, in case they were there waiting. I tried to email them through Craigslist, just in case their phone was dead, but their ad had been removed by the seller! So after another hour, we headed back to the gas station...then drove home, very disappointed!! I can't really call it a SCAM, because no money was exchanged, but who does stuff like this? What did they gain? See puppy photos and her parent's photos they sent me.
