Description
Guitarist seeks musicians (guitar, bass, keys, drums) with a vision to form a tight band that can move seamlessly through the best roots dance music styles of the Americas of the late 20th century.
I love the thought of a band being able to perform instrumentally first, and then bring in young vocal talent. Focus at first on the greatest, grooviest, most canonical tracks in that style.
Dancehall regge mega-riddims: Stalag, Jamrock, Real Rock, etc
Cumbia/chicha classics: La Danza de los Mirlos, Yo Me Llamo Cumbia
House/disco/funk classic tracks: I Feel Love, Cut the Cake
Samba/bossa/tropicalia classic tracks: Canto de Ossanha, Ponteio, Bat Macumba
Plus music of New Orleans, Cuba, western swing - anything that moves the body, you have knowledge of and is fun to play. Some soloing is ok, but this is not a jazz project. We get adept and breaking down and going dubwise to extend the grooves.
I'm an adult person, family man, and a professional musician (mostly as a solo guitarist).
Booker T and MGs, The Meters, AWB, JBs are models, but more up to date and with a broader palette.
