Position Summary: The Porter Supervisor performs a variety of custodial and general maintenance functions to maintain cleanliness, care, use of and access to the facilities in accordance with The Forts’ high standards of quality. The Porter Supervisor receives written and verbal instruction from the Housekeeping Manager regarding tasks that need attention and is also expected to walk the property and address any items under his/her purview that need attention. The Porter Supervisor will supervise seasonally-hired Porters ensuring proper training and oversight is provided. The role maintains a thorough knowledge of The Fort and all of its grounds, products and services as well as awareness of other roles and responsibilities throughout the organization. In addition to maintaining our vision by adhering to our values and management principles, this position must provide the highest level of service to our guests. Primary Responsibilities • Manages Porter Team, coordinating between Guest Services and Events department needs • Maintains established cleaning schedule of meeting rooms so rooms stay presentable at all times • Keep areas properly supplied with toilet paper, paper towels, soap and other items • Clean and sanitize public areas, restrooms, and offices in accordance with established procedures and standards • Perform high and low dusting • Clean furniture and metal fixtures • Sweep, mop and/or vacuum floors and rugs; vacuum and extract carpets • Empty trash and recycle containers • Use chemicals, supplies and equipment in accord with written and verbal instructions • Wash interior and exterior windows • Secure interior doors upon completion of cleaning assignments • Observe and report suspicious activity • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of custodial equipment • Participate in staff selection process, interviewing candidates as needed • Ensure that assigned staff receives proper orientation and initial training • Assign seasonal porter daily and project duties and provide general supervision • Conduct quality assurance checks and manage materials inventory as well as general use of equipment • Provide individual guidance and motivation to staff to enable each one to perform to his/her fullest potential • Be accountable for assigned equipment and submit requests for equipment repairs to the supervisor immediately • Maintain inventory of consumables such as chemicals and paper products and submit supply orders to the manager in a timely manner to avoid running out of stock • Step in for housekeeping, maintenance and laundry staff as needed • Remain up-to-date and familiar with procedures, activities at Fort Worden, local attractions, current events, directions and other information on the local area in order to provide accurate information at the guest request • Attend staff meetings as needed • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or other management Minimum Qualifications 1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred (not required) 2. Housekeeping experience and/or training in custodial work, or similar experience 3. Washington State Driver’s License (or similar) with a clean driving record (this is required) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Working knowledge of safety issues relating to moving equipment, building maintenance; basic maintenance skills 2. Requires bending, stooping, reaching up and lifting up to 50 pounds 3. Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods 4. Ability to operate all necessary equipment (will train!) 5. Available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department 6. Ability to follow directions thoroughly 7. Ability to work in outdoor areas 8. Can work on own as well as part of a team 9. Strong service/quality attitude 10.
