Description

A Paddle Parade on Bayou Teche as part of The TECHE Project's Shake Your Trail Feather Festival. Paddle with us from Poche's Meat Market in Poche Bridge to Parc des Ponts in Breaux Bridge on Saturday, October 16, as part of our 10th annual Shake Your Trail Feather Festival. The floating paddle parade will start at 10 a.m. (register at Poche's at 9:30), and band Amis du Teche will escort via barge to set the mood as folks float for a 2-hour paddle down beautiful Bayou Teche. When the parade ends at the park in Breaux Bridge, the festival begins! Live music in the park starts at noon with crowd favorites Stop the Clock (12 -1:30 p.m.), Bonsoir, Catin (2 -3:30 p.m.) and Horace Trahan and the Ossun Express (4- 6 p.m.). Also included at the park after the paddle are kids' activities, artisans, food and drink and a Heritage Tent with ecological and cultural speakers. We also plan to have a Best Bird costume contest, so come with your beaks and feathers on! We ask that the parade be limited to non-motorized watercraft. There is a pre-paddle shuttle available for $5 that leaves from the Breaux Bridge boat launch at 9 a.m. Find more info at http://www.techeproject.org/events/shake-your-trail-feather/. Boat rental is available from Bayou Teche Experience, Pack and Paddle and The Backpacker. This event is a fundraiser for The TECHE Project, and proceeds go toward building the Bayou Teche National Paddle Trail, which will provide access docks and other amenities for paddlers in the 15 towns along Bayou Teche. We currently have 11 paddle trail docks and 15 accompanying informational kiosks installed on the bayou. Visit www.techeproject.org for more info about the paddle parade and our organization. Call Administrator Erin Bass at 337-706-2323 for more info on the Paddle Parade. The TECHE Project is a non-profit organization that works to raise awareness of the ecological, cultural and historic significance of the Bayou Teche Watershed.  We do this be conducting periodic volunteer bayou clean ups and workshops on ecological and historical issues.  We are also the managers of the Bayou Teche Paddle Trail, a nationally recognized water trail (only one in Louisiana).  We are implementing paddle trail amenities along the 130 miles of Bayou Teche, which include full-service trailheads, floating docks, and boat launches.
