NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Jonathan Raymond has officially assumed his role as the chief of the City School District of New Rochelle. Raymond will attend his first New Rochelle Board of Education meeting as Superintendent on Tuesday. The meeting will mark Raymond's first public appearance as the head of the school district. The 6:30 p.m. meeting is open to the public. Board of Education President Julia Muggia Ochs swore in Raymond on Monday. He was hired by the Board of Education in May of this year after a months-long search, which was eventually narrowed down to then acting superintendent Alex Marrero and Raymond. Just hours after Raymond was named as the New Rochelle Superintendent, Marrero announced he would be accepting the top job at the Denver Public School District. In fact, by the time Raymond was revealed as his replacement, Marrero was already in Colorado and was on hand at a press conference where he was named the superintendent in Denver. Raymond joins the district after serving as the Executive Director of the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund. He brings insights from many years of experience in education, including as Chief Accountability Officer of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system in North Carolina and as Superintendent of the Sacramento City Unified School District. In accepting the position, Raymond said he is committed to being supportive of the whole child and engaging with the community by listening and learning. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of building relationships that become the foundation of the district's vision and action plan.
