Description

Join us for an in-person, exclusive tour of the exhibition "Kay Sekimachi: Geometries" The Textile Artists Council is delighted to offer another in-person exhibit. This time we will view Kay Sekimachi: Geometries at the Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA). The museum will open an hour earlier for us to have the gallery exclusively for our group. Our extra special treat is that Kay will join us in the gallery. A fiber artist and weaver, she is well known as a “weaver's weaver” for her unusual use of the loom in constructing three-dimensional sculptural pieces. The show includes 50 objects that highlight the artist’s range of material and formal innovations across her career, combining Japanese and American artistic traditions. We will also have the opportunity to meet with Kay in the museum’s Babette Cafe after viewing the exhibit. All registered participants will be given a private link to a video of curator Jenelle Porter’s discussion of the exhibit to view prior to the museum visit. Safety Measures: The BAMPFA requires protective face masks covering the nose, mouth and chin for visitors and staff while at the gallery. MISSION We are a support group of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco with the goal of advancing the appreciation of the Museums’ textile and costume collections. We are a Bay Area forum that provides lecturers, workshops, events and travel opportunities for artists, designers, aficionados and collectors of ethnic textiles, rugs, tapestries, Western costume, and contemporary fiber art.
