The Workshop Assistant (WA) at Kay Chesterfield is a team player who maintains a positive attitude, a high level of professionalism, and a desire for quality work. The WA takes direction from the Production Manager and reports to the Operations Manager. - The WA is an entry-level position and can be trained; previous experience in the upholstery field is highly desirable. Warehouse or workshop experience is preferred. - Treating customer-owned items and materials with utmost care is absolutely essential. - English literacy is essential to be able to read and understand work orders. - Spanish/English fluency is highly desirable. - Demonstrated abilities and competence may warrant additional training to more advanced levels of work, as appropriate. Duties for the WA include: - Maintaining a clean and organized workshop and warehouse environment. - Stripping furniture in preparation for reupholstery. - Stuffing cushions and pillows with existing inserts. - Cutting and fabricating new foam inserts as dictated by project. - Independently following through on all assignments to completion. - Notifying the Production Manager and Operations Manager of any unseen damages to furniture during the stripping process - Keeping foam stock in order and marking project related materials for clarity; maintaining orderly inventory of remnant foam pieces for reuse. - Learning (and retaining) new skills and techniques as part of growing with the company. - Exterior maintenance which may include light landscaping, waste management, graffiti abatement, and general cleanliness. - The WA will be asked to work an occasional Saturday/overtime as requested. - Other duties as required. Position Requirements - Ability to work in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures. - Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach while performing duties. - Ability to safely operate hand and small power tools. - Ability to lift 50 pounds. - Ability to go up and down stairs and ladders. - Ability to maintain ongoing, respectful and progressive communication with others. - Ability to stand on concrete floors (with gel mat) for extended periods. - Ability to match or detect differences between colors, fabric textures and types. - Ability to follow all safety protocols and comply with all company policies.
