Description

ARLINGTON, MA — The town received a third grant from MassDOT's Shared Streets and Spaces program to fund upgrades to the Medford Street parklet. These will include new seating, umbrellas and plantings. The parklet was identified for equipment upgrades due to its frequent usage and prominent location on busy Medford Street. A section of Park Terrace will continue to be closed to vehicle traffic to accommodate the outdoor seating area and pedestrian plaza. The Shared Streets and Spaces Program supports projects that promote public health, safe mobility, and renewed commerce by quickly providing new or repurposed space for socially-distanced walking, bicycling, dining, retail and bus travel. The grant award for this third round is $50,000. Upgrades will be installed as soon as the town receives the new equipment. The installations will remain in place until late fall 2021, at which point they will be disassembled and stored until the spring of 2022.
