CHEVERLY, MD — Police announced Tuesday that a driver died after an oncoming motorist crashed into them on July 3 while going the wrong way on U.S. Route 50. Officers identified the victim as 29-year-old Rene Haley of Mitchellville.
Medics pronounced Haley dead on the scene, an incident report noted. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on Haley's body to determine the cause and manner of death, authorities indicated. Haley was the driver and the only occupant of a 2019 Lincoln SUV, the write-up added.
Troopers mentioned that an ambulance took the oncoming driver, a 55-year-old man from Upper Marlboro, to MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. He was the only occupant of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, the press release explained. Charges are still pending an investigation and consultation with Prince George's County State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy, the report shared.
The Cheverly crash happened around 2 a.m. on the eastbound side of John Hanson Highway near Columbia Park Road, the Maryland State Police clarified.
