where the underground experimental music scene at?

I'm somewhat new to the area and am an electronic musician. I know this is a long shot but I'm looking for some music 'shows' to see, friends to see them with, perhaps other similar-minded musicians to collaborate (start a cult?) or just hang out and listen to music with. I have always loved experimental, electronic, abstract, etc. Like I want to sit in someone's living room with a bunch of people while they make drone music and play random weird videos on a projector for four hours. That kind of stuff. BoC, Aphex Twin, Stars of the Lid, Windy & Carl, Oval, Labradford, William Basinski, are some of my faves.
