Great Valley Parents Wishing To Use Act 66 Have Until Thursday

MALVERN, PA — Two days remain for Great Valley parents to take advantage of the option for their child to repeat a grade level after pandemic setbacks. Great Valley School District said if a parent, guardian, or student chooses the option allowed in recent legislation, the student will remain in the same grade level and with the same course roster as they had in the 2020-21 school year. July 15 is the deadline to sign on. Pennsylvania's Act 66 of 2021, signed by Gov. Tom Wolf on June 30, allows parents or guardians the option to have their child repeat the 2020-21 grade level in the upcoming school year to address any lost educational opportunities as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The option is open even if the student met the requirements to be promoted to the next grade level, the Department of Education said in a news statement. The form that must be completed can be accessed here. GVSD said parents should submit the completed form to [email protected] on or before July 15. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Daniel Goffredo said the options afforded under Act 66 require families to make consequential and permanent educational decisions in a very short period of time. "The District is ready to discuss with any family who may be considering these options what an additional or repeat school year would look like for their child and the impact it may have on their future educational endeavors. If you wish to discuss your child's situation, please contact your child's principal. Thank you," the Superintendent said in a statement to parents. Make sure you know what's happening in your town.
