Suzanne Bonamici and U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona visited local schools Tuesday to discuss President Biden's Build Back Better plan. The program includes provisions for affordable higher education, including two years of free community college. The duo presented at Witch Hazel Elementary in Hillsboro and Southridge High School. (U.S. Department of Education)A local business announced new technology that enables drivers and passengers to use their mobile device as a hands-free digital key. Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) released its CCC Digital Key Release 3.0 on Tuesday to members who include BMW, Honda and other popular automakers. The update will unlock a vehicle even if the connected device is in a pocket or bag. (BusinessWire) Reporter Kelsie Grega offers an update on TVF&R heading out to assist with emergencies nationwide. Many were deployed to the Bootleg fire in Klamath County on July 10, which was actively burning over 200,000 acres as of Tuesday afternoon. Additionally, three TVF&R firefighters are providing peer support and counseling to firefighters at the site of the Miami condo collapse. Jason Manuel Vantine, 38, saved his daughter from a whirlpool but was pulled under and died. (KGW) KOIN reports that the former Cornelius mayor is still missing after two months. Ralph Brown, 76, disappeared in May driving a blue Nissan Sentra, and there have been no sightings of him since then. His family says he suffers from dementia and may not be able to find his way home.
