TUSCALOOSA, AL — Republican April Weaver has won the special general election to fill the open Alabama Senate District 14 seat, which covers Bibb, Chilton and Shelby counties. Weaver pulled in 6,231 total votes to defeat Democrat Virginia Applebaum, coming out to just over 80% of the ballots cast in the staunchly conservative district. She will now occupy the senate seat left vacant by Republican Cam Ward of Alabaster, who was appointed director of the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles by Gov. Kay Ivey. At one point during her decade in the House of Representatives, she chaired the House Health Committee. In the March Republican Primary, Weaver won easily with 82% of the vote.
