Looking to Start Instrumental/Post-Rock Band

Description

I am looking to start an instrumental/post-rock band. I’m a guitar player primarily but have played drums, bass, and synth on recordings over the years as well. I’ve been playing in an indie band for around seven years that sometimes gets into shoegaze territory, but I’m looking to write more thematic music without the concern for vocals. I will still be writing and performing with the other group, so this will be more of a side project for me. I’m not looking to tour or “make it,” just collaborate, write interesting music, play some shows, and record when there’s enough material to call for it. While I do have a practice space/recording setup at my house, I’d prefer to use someone else’s space outside of recording. I already host practice once a week with my other band, and I’m sure my wife and dogs wouldn’t mind a break from the noise for this project. My main influences include Caspian, hubris., Man Mountain, pg. lost, God is an Astronaut, Hammock, We Lost the Sea, Long Distance Calling, PILLARS, Ranges, and Meniscus. I do like more mainstream post-rock bands, including Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai, but the others typically get a bit more play for me. Personality wise, I try to be relaxed and agreeable when it comes to making music - it’s supposed to be an enjoyable expression, so there’s really no reason to be negative about the process or people involved. I prefer to arrive at practice with well-formed ideas, rather than spending a couple hours trying to jam out one part of a song and playing over one another. I’m a lefty from a political perspective and wouldn’t really want to be in a band with people who don’t share a basic worldview. Even though the songs will be instrumental, I would probably want to sample some material (speeches, readings, etc.), and those samples will almost assuredly have a social or political position. I’m fully vaccinated and wouldn’t be interested to get in a room with others who aren’t, as I have family with immune system complications. I’m married, have a full time job, am in my mid-30s, and have reliable transportation and quality gear. If you’ve made it this far and everything seems cool, let’s talk! Send an email and tell me a bit about yourself, your influences, your favorite pieces of gear, whatever will covey a bit about who you are and what you’re looking for in a band. Thanks for looking!
