2 Female guinea pigs

These two female guinea pigs are 3 years old - they were born on February 1, 2019. Their names are Diamond (ethiopian guinea pig with gray and brown fur), and sassy (american guinea pig with white brown and tan fur). Diamond had an right eye ulcer at the beginning of this year that we caught and had treated early so she didn’t have to have her eye removed. The vet thinks that it came from the wood chips we were using as bedding (aspen); that she might have kicked some up when frolicking about and got in her eye and scratched it, which then got infected and formed an ulcer. Their cage is large. it has a top that latches on and lifts, but we have left it off all of this time because our youngest would lift it and let go of it and it would always scare them. We have been using Extra large dog pads and soft paper bedding to line the cage, but you could also line it with fleece if you wanted something reusable. The vet was happy to hear that we didn’t wash them too often and that when we did we used baby shampoo - just a tip ; ) They have only ever eaten oxford adult pellets and oxford hay along with romaine lettuce every day, celery a few times a week, and carrots as a treat once ever 10 days or so. I have three water bottles, hay holder, and pellet holder. As of today they have half a bag of hay and half a bag of pellets left. We have around 50 xlarge dog pads left and JUST ran out of the paper bedding. We did try to “litter” train them (using bedding) at one point, so we do have a large corner “litter”tray as well. And lastly, we have two carriers, one that fits one guinea pig (if she has to go to the vet) and a large one big enough for them both. We have loved these girls even when we found out our son was allergic not too ling after we brought them home, but unfortunately his allergies have grown more severe and has a hard time breathing.
