OAK CREEK, WI — The Milwaukee Brewers chose a Wisconsin native and Oak Creek High School alum, Alex Binelas, in the 86th overall MLB draft.
Milwaukee Brewers player Christian Yelich congratulated Binelas on Twitter for the pick, and shared a video from Binelas's former high school team. The video shows Binelas the moment he realized he got picked by the Brewers.
Congrats @AlexBinelas13 pretty cool moment! Enjoy it https://t.co/ufhV2gbf1m— Christian Yelich (@ChristianYelich) July 12, 2021 Alex Binelas will start as a third base player for the Brewers, though, his hitting skills may be why he caught the Brewers' attention, a report from MLB.com said.
Binelas told MLB.com that he wanted to "bring a world series home for the Brewers one day."
"Growing up, I watched a lot of Brewers games," Binelas said in the MLB.com report.
Binelas was drafted out of high school in 2018 by the Washington Nationals, but he attended college and played for the Louisville Cardinals, according to the MLB.com report. Binelas hit 14 homeruns in his freshman year in Louisville, and finished his junior year with 19 homeruns, according to the report.
