GREENDALE, WI — Milwaukee's free Shakespeare in the park shows are coming back this summer, with one show planned for Greendale. Optimist Theatre, a Milwaukee based performing arts group, announced that it will put on a live show of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream: The Lovers' Tale in Greendale's Gazebo Park on July 31. The version of the classic Shakespeare play will be a 75 minute rendition that focuses on the four lovers and the fairies Puck and Oberon. It is the 1976 Arden version of the play, edited by M.L. Cogar, Optimist Theatre said on its website. The show will run without an intermission. Optimist Theatre's dramaturg, M.L. Cogar, will direct the performances alongside Tom Reed, the theatre's associate artistic director, according to the Optimist Theatre website. The show will take place at 3:30 p.m. on July 31 at Gazebo Park, located at 5710 Broad Street in Greendale. Optimist Theatre announced details that show-goers should know on its website: Parking will be free nearby. The performance will be in the green space next to the gazebo, but seating is first come first serve. The theater company asked that people register ahead of time for the event. Bathrooms during the show are located at the Greendale Public Library across the street from the show, the theater company said on its website. No chairs will be provided at the show. Tickets are not necessary, but registration is recommended. Alcohol, cigarettes and recording equipment is not allowed at the show, the Optimist Theater website said.
