ATTLEBORO, MA — A U.S. District Court Judge sentenced Garry Bienvenue, 59, of Attleboro to 10 years in prison for engaging children under the age of 12 in sexually explicit acts using Snapchat on Tuesday. On March 10, 2021, Bienvenue pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor and a minor who was under the age of 12. An investigation was launched by law enforcement and police learned an internet user at Bienvenue's home had solicited and received child pornography from children over the internet using Snapchat through the video chat feature. Police conducted a search of the house, including Bienvenue's smartphone, which contained extremely graphic videos received through Snapchat messenger involving the rape of a child believed to be only 3-5 years old. The investigation also found Bienvenue had used another phone application to solicit and pay people in the Philippines to force children to participate in naked video chats with him and watch him engage in sexual activities. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. In 2006, the Department of Justice created the initiative to protect children from exploitation and abuse. The case was prosecuted by a member of the Major Crimes Unit.
