Funding For Skilled Trades Comes To MOCO College In New Grant

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Students at Montgomery College will have the opportunity to learn more about skills needed for careers related to heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, thanks to a $95,000 grant awarded by the Johnson Controls Community College Partnership program. The purpose of the grant is to give students from underserved communities skills that they can take to life-long careers, Johnson Controls said in a press release. The funding at Montgomery College is being used to help create a building systems automation lab in The Homer S. Gudelsky Institute for Technical Education, as well as offer academic success coaching, a release from Montgomery College said. "Johnson Controls is proud to build upon our significant presence in the city by partnering with Montgomery College on the Community College Partnership Program," said Grady Crosby, VP of Public Affairs and Chief Diversity Officer at Johnson Controls, in a news release. "We believe the program will empower people to build life-long careers that will transform their lives and the city." Montgomery College is one of 10 community colleges receiving funding for this year. Johnson Controls said it will give students at these colleges real-world experience through internships and networking opportunities. "Just as smart, healthy buildings are critical to our well-being, well-educated and trained technicians are crucial to keeping our environments operating safely and efficiently," said Crosby in the release. "As a leader in the building industry for over a century, Johnson Controls is honored to share our expertise with the country's leading community colleges."
