She purchased Green Thumb Inc., an interior plant maintenance and fine gardening service specializing in rose gardens, in 2004, after completing graduate school at Florida Atlantic University. Her experience in the horticulture industry spans from working for her family’s Homestead nursery since childhood to working with high-end interior plantscape companies in New York City to local native and specialty nurseries in Broward County. Griffiths uses “Florida-friendly landscape” techniques and the knowledge she gains from scientific research to better understand the needs and limitations of our often urban, southeast Florida setting to enable her to design beautiful, functional and environmentally-sound landscapes and gardens. Green Thumb seeks to use natural, environmentally safe and non-impactful methods of garden management and pest control protocols. Janine has been a committed volunteer Broward County Master Gardener since 2003 and is currently serving on their Urban Horticulture Advisory Board. She became a certified Advanced Master Naturalist by the University of Florida in 2012. In 2015, she received her Arborist Certification from ISA and is an FNGLA certified Horticulture Tech. Ms. Griffiths also works closely with Jesse Durko, at Jesse Durko’s Nursery in Davie, to develop a native plant selection to serve Broward County residences, as well as a collection of antique and old garden roses for southeast Florida, heirloom herbs & vegetables, tropical, perennial herbs and edible plants. She has also served on the board of the Florida Association of Native Nurseries (FANN) since Fall 2016 and is currently the VP and chair of the Education Commitee. As well as a being a Certified Florida-Friendly Landscape Professional, a Florida Waterstar Landscape Professional, and Water Ambassador for Broward County. Founded in 2008, SCGP is an all volunteer-run, not-for-profit project with the mission of educating about edible, tropical gardening, improving food security, and building community based in a shared love for nature. We are downtown Delray's organic food forest! We are pop-up permaculture offering workshops, nature-based learning opportunities, and a green oasis where community convenes.
