CONNECTICUT — The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has updated its water quality report for Connecticut's swimming holes, and four are off limits. Gay City, Wharton Brook and Rocky Neck swim areas are closed due to the quality of the water, and are being retested. The results will be made available later this week. Mashamoquet swimming area is closed for maintenance, and Wadsworth Falls State Park is currently shut due to storm damage. The Department of Public Health Lab tests water samples from Connecticut beaches each week for the presence of certain indicator bacteria. Local municipalities' health departments are responsible for checking local beaches. For information on closures of local swimming areas, contact the local public health agency.
