PLAINFIELD, IL — After months of planning and a year off due to COVID-19, Plainfield Fest is returning to the village this weekend. While there won't be a carnival or street closures this summer due to less personnel, the beer fest, bags tournament and food vendors are coming back. The annual event, hosted by the Plainfield Riverfront Foundation, will be held Friday through Sunday at the Plainfield Township Community Center, at 15014 S. Des Plaines St., and the Des Plaines Municipal Parking Lot. It'll take place from 4 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon a.m. to midnight Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Wristbands for the beer tent cost $5, and each beer ticket, which includes wine, is $5, or five tickets for $20. The beer tent and entertainment area will be sealed off to those under 21 after 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, but no age restrictions apply to the area on Sunday. For some, the Midwest Bags Tournament is the highlight of Plainfield Fest, and this year, it has been expanded to allow 80 teams to participate, up from the usual 64 teams. On Sunday, each team will play a minimum of five games, and whoever makes it to the championship and consolation brackets can win cash prizes. Registration for the tournament can be found through Plainfield Fest's website. Plainfield Fest wouldn't be complete without a lineup of bands, and several are scheduled to perform over the weekend. Some performers include AD3 Acoustic Trio, to go on from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday; Too Fighters, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday followed by 7th Heaven from 10 p.m. to midnight; and Common Allies from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The entrance and exit for the fest will be on Des Plaines Street, with barricades along the west side of Des Plaines Street blocking the angled parking spaces, giving pedestrians a wider area to walk, according to an earlier report. Handicapped parking will be on the west side of Des Plaines Street between Main Street and Oak Street, and on the north side of Oak Street from Des Plaines Street through Illinois Street.
