Date: June 2021 Job Title: Maintenance Specialist I Grade: A - $3,215.00 per mo. + excellent benefits package SUMMARY Performs a variety of semi- skilled, limited skill or unskilled general maintenance work. Distinguishing Characteristics This is the class for those primarily performing work of the semi-skilled and unskilled trades. Skilled trades are performed below the journey level. Incumbents usually have some general maintenance experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Repairs power equipment and hand mowers. Repairs doors, locks, window frames. Performs rough carpentry work. Performs limited or unskilled plumbing, electrical carpentry, painting and other trades. Performs custodial work such as picking up and hauling trash, washing windows and floors. Operates mechanized vehicles and operates power hand tools. Loads and unloads material. Assists other maintenance specialists with work assignments. Remains available for call back emergency service. Performs grounds maintenance work. May perform custodial work. Operates or drives specialized vehicles. Operates a variety of tools and equipment. Performs related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Knowledge of: Principles and practices of general maintenance. Building maintenance and repair. Safety regulations. Power tool use. Semi-skilled maintenance crafts including plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, heating, vehicle maintenance and equipment maintenance. Ability to: Understand written and oral instruction. Maintain buildings and grounds. Perform semi-skilled maintenance crafts including plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, heating, vehicle maintenance and equipment maintenance. Perform unskilled work such as custodial and trash hauling. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Care for tools and use them safely. Be available for callback. Perform heavy manual labor. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be: High School Diploma. Two years of experience in the trades. Valid CA driver’s license. CPR and First Aid Certificate. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
