ATLANTA — In an effort to be proactive in the fight against crime, the Fulton County Sheriff's Office set up safety checkpoints throughout the county, which bore some fruit over the weekend.
The Sheriff Office's crime-suppression team, known as the Scorpion Unit, teamed up with the South Fulton Police Department, the Georgia State Patrol and the Governor's Office of Highway Safety to conduct Operation Rolling Thunder.
The operation netted 103 citations, 12 arrests as well as a DUI arrest, four impounded vehicles, illegal drugs and one stolen weapon.
"We are laser focused on making Fulton County a safe place to live, work, and play," Sheriff Patrick "Pat" Labat said. "We are stalking the stalkers. If you plan to come to Fulton County to commit crime, then plan on an extended stay in the Fulton County Jail."
Labat activated the Scorpion Unit earlier this year upon taking office as a highly specialized group of law enforcement personnel who work the streets throughout the county's 15 cities.
