Shelter Island, NY: Environmental Coalition Seeking Paid Canvassers ($30/hour) Starting July 26 A coalition of major environmental groups will be canvassing residents of Shelter Island to educate residents about opportunities for environmental conservation. This is a great opportunity to work on the frontlines of a public and environmental health crisis to bring about real change. This job will consist primarily of door-to-door canvassing, with some phone canvassing involved as well. We are looking for full-time staff for what is expected to be a two-week project. We aim to uplift the voices of the community to strengthen public health, preserve the environment, and create a roadmap to lasting political change at the local level. Proximity to Shelter Island and access to a vehicle are strongly preferred, however we will consider all candidates and are willing to make transportation arrangements as needed. For those with their own vehicles, gas reimbursement will be provided. Essential Functions: Organize on the ground, building relationships with residents of Shelter Island with core goals of: Persuading them to take individual action on environmental issues. Building grassroots power to demonstrate to local leaders that there is a demand for action Meet daily and weekly canvassing goals Skills and Qualifications: Previous campaign, canvassing, or sales experience preferred, as a volunteer or staff member Strong interpersonal communications skills Ability to work independently and in team settings.
