Reporting to the MEP Supervisor, the HVAC/Plumbing Technician performs routine repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems including air distribution machinery, hot and chilled water distribution, variable volume systems and commercial and residential boilers, maintains all plumbing systems owned by Deerfield Academy. Primary responsibilities include, to independently perform preventive maintenance, perform troubleshooting and repair of building plumbing and HVAC distribution systems, including boiler rooms and appliances; assist with oversight and maintenance of pool equipment and chemicals; perform HVAC system inspections and manufacturer-recommended preventive maintenance; assist with completion of major component replacement and evaluation of complex system problems; respond to and complete work orders for the HVAC/Plumbing trade in a timely and efficient manner; execute required permits, in collaboration with the MEP Supervisor and stay current on changes in the plumbing trade and codes. The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, MA Journeyman Plumbing License required, refrigeration and HVAC knowledge preferred; willingness to work on-call on a rotating schedule; Knowledge of commercial and residential heating equipment both gas and oil; knowledge of steam generation and chiller plant operation; knowledge of BMS/energy management systems, BMS controlled equipment, and VFD; ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; basic computer and mathematical knowledge; excellent communication skills; strong attention to details; a valid Driver’s License; working knowledge of HVAC and associated systems employing computer-based monitoring and control and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
