Join the Charles River Conservancy on Saturday, August 14 from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in Watertown Charles River parks. Join the Charles River Conservancy on Saturday, August 14th from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the Watertown Charles River parks. Volunteers will paint benches, weed, remove litter, and help cut back invasive plants. Event Location/Meeting Spot: We will be working along Charles River Road, Watertown, in the parks and in Watertown Square. This is large area, which will make for easy social distancing! Parking is available along Charles River Road, Watertown. You can enter 147 Charles River Rd., Watertown in your GPS. We will meet near the white and black Charles River Conservancy truck. Before we begin working, volunteers will be given a lesson on the history of the river and given direction on the projects for the day, including any necessary plant identification and proper plant removal techniques. What to Bring/ Wear: The Charles River Conservancy will provide tools, work gloves, hand sanitizer, and antibacterial wipes to sterilize all tools pre and prior to use. If you prefer to bring and use your own tools from home, it might be a good idea to bring: • Garden trowel • Trash Pick • Work Gloves • Wear light colored clothing (for tick prevention) • Long sleeves shirt and pants • Closed toes shoes Event Safety Protocols: While Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted by the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Charles River Conservancy still recommends that: • All volunteers wear a facemask. • All equipment, tools, and materials be disinfected before and after use in accordance with CDC guidelines. Furthermore, participants should not share equipment, tools, or other materials. • Participants use alcohol-based sanitizer, which will be available for all . • Participants adhere to social distancing guidelines and remain at least six feet away from others. • Food and drinks be brought from participants’ homes and not shared with individuals outside of one’s household. The Charles River Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Cambridge, MA. Established in 2000, the CRC is dedicated to the stewardship, renewal, and enhancement of the urban parklands along the Charles River. The CRC works in partnership with the Department of Conservation and Recreation to make the parklands more active, attractive, and accessible for all. A major initiaitve of the CRC is the Swim Park Project, which seeks to reclaim urban swimming in the urban Charles River by building a safe, fun, and accessible permanent swimming facility in the river.
