Description

Woodman Museum Presents The Portsmouth Brass Quintet The Portsmouth Brass Quintet is comprised of key brass players from the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble was founded by Adam Gallant in the fall of 2016 and is dedicated to performing serious brass chamber music at the highest level. The PBQ has performed recently on the seacoast in Portsmouth, Kittery, Newington, Rye, Exeter, and Durham. In February 2018, they gave their debut recital at South Church in Portsmouth, featuring the works of Stravinsky, Gabrieli, Bach, Dahl, and Bernstein. The quintet is available for weddings, church services, education concerts, graduation ceremonies, and any other occasion calling for brass music. The PBQ will present a program of Americana perfectly suited for a summer evening. Alongside marches, quicksteps, waltzes, and rags by Sousa, Friederich, and Joplin, the quintet will perform several selections from Broadway. Leonard Bernstein’s rhythmic score to West Side Story will be juxtaposed with the sultry melodies of George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and the wholesome tunes of Meredith Wilson’s The Music Man. Join us for a toe-tapping evening that is not to be missed! About the Woodman Museum The Woodman, founded in 1916, is a traditional early 20th-century style natural science, history, and art museum with exhibits for all ages. The campus is home to four buildings, which include the Woodman House (1818), the Hale House (1813), the William Damm Garrison (1675) and the Keefe House (1825). The museum’s collection includes hundreds of colonial artifacts, a comprehensive mineral and fossil collection, mounted animal specimens, fine art and furniture, an extensive collection of militaria, local history objects, and much more. The Woodman is open seasonally to the public (from mid-March to mid-December) Wednesday through Sunday, 10am-5pm.   The Thom Hindle Gallery at the Woodman (15 Summer St., Dover, NH 03820) features a series of rotating exhibitions and is free to the public during normal museum hours.
