Learn how to turn you lawn into an edible garden! This is such a fun and flavorful way to landscape the front or backyard. Most people don’t realize that our edible plants are often very beautiful and can be used in the right arrangement to create a lovely garden that can produce food for your family while creating a peaceful habitat for people and native wildlife. This one day course will go over the basics of organic gardening techniques to help establish your foundation for earth friendly gardening. The other main topic will be discussing is the wide variety of trees, bushes, vines herbaceous plants and ground covers that grow well in our region. Our Southern California climate is so unique and has an ever expanding pallet of beautiful edible plants available to fill all the varied niches in our yard ecosystems. We will be covering soil preparation and fertility, irrigation techniques, proper planting methods, appropriate plants four the right place in your yard. We will also be touching on mulching, pest control and ongoing maintenance. Victory Gardens is an outreach program of Wild Willow Farm & Education Center, a 501(c)3 educational non-profit whose mission is to educate, cultivate and empower a sustainable food system in San Diego County.
