Description

Join SVBC's Sunnyvale and Santa Clara Local Teams on a bike ride of El Camino Real. You are invited to the El Camino Bike Ride in Santa Clara and Sunnyvale. If you're an avid cyclist, you are aware that El Camino is not the most bike-friendly location. See more about El Camino Real for bicyclists on SVBC's website. The City of Santa Clara has in its El Camino Real Specific Plan to implement protected complete bicycle lanes along El Camino Real. However, recently the Council has favored keeping on-street parking in certain locations which will cause segments of unprotected bicycle lanes. Starting at Santa Clara Caltrain Station and ending in Downtown Sunnyvale, this 6.5 mile ride along El Camino is being done to raise awareness that there is strength in numbers and that protected bicycle lanes on this major street is critical to creating a safe environment for all road users who utilize El Camino as a destination or passthrough. This ride is designed to be a social ride, but please remember there will be motor traffic on the street. The ride is about 6 miles long and expected to take roughly an hour but could be a bit longer. This event will be capped at 50 riders.
