Essex County Sheriff Warns Of Warrant Telephone Scam

DANVERS, MA — The Essex County Sheriff's Office is warning North Shore residents not to fall for a scam in which someone pretending to be from the sheriff's department demands money in exchange for clearing up an outstanding warrant. The Sheriff's Office said it has received reports of area residents receiving telephone calls from someone purporting to be from the department. "The Essex County Sheriff's Department does not make courtesy calls to those with warrants," the office assured. "We deliver them in person."
