TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Township Council is scheduled to have a final reading of an ordinance adjusting its zoning rules regarding houses of worship, including reducing the minimum acreage to 2 acres. The ordinance is part of the settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice of the department's lawsuit that said Toms River's zoning laws violated the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act. The ordinance can be read here. More information about RLUIPA is available here. The council meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the L. Manuel Hirschblond Meeting Room at Toms River's Town Hall on Washington Street. The meeting agenda is here. The council also is scheduled for a final reading of its ordinance to ban recreational cannabis retail establishments in the township, and to introduce an ordinance to put an expiration date on that ban.
