Bucks Co. Nonprofit Seeks Donated Cars For Low-Income Families

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The Gene and Marlene Epstein Humanitarian Fund has announced that they will give $500 to the first 20 people who donate a car during the month of July to the Bucks County Opportunity Council. The "Wheelz2Work 30-day Challenge" is a partnership between the Council, Bucks County Community College and the Epstein Humanitarian Fund. Donated vehicles are given to low-income families enrolled in the Council's Economic Self-Sufficiency (ES) Program who need safe, reliable transportation for work or school. The program matches eligible families with a coach, and together they develop an individualized plan with a focus on education and employment. The program is a lifeline for participants who have been derailed from pursuing additional training or job interviews or have been unable to apply for higher paying jobs at a greater distance from home because of unsafe or unreliable transportation. To date, 71 used cars have been donated to BCOC. The Epstein family is hoping to expand the Wheelz to Work Program and provide much needed transportation to ES participants currently on the waiting list. If 20 cars are donated in July, the Council will receive $10,000 from the Epstein Humanitarian Fund. More information can be found here or at www.wheelz2work.com.
