SALEM, NH — Police in Salem are investigating how and why an SUV crashed into a home on Saturday, injuring a child inside of the house. Salem police and fire and rescue teams received a number of calls to 911 about the crash which occurred around 2 p.m. on Silver Brook Road. When police and firefighters arrived, they found a 2019 Acura RDX had crashed into a home and then, trees and bushes. At the time, the SUV, being driven by Scott Dowd, 34, of Salem, was traveling south on the road. Dowd was trapped inside the SUV and removed through the vehicle's windshield. He was taken to Lawrence General Hospital and released a number of hours later. A child inside the home, a girl, was injured. She was also taken to Lawrence General and then, med-flighted to Boston. The girl was in emergency surgery and is in stable condition, Salem Police Chief Joel Dolan said. "A preliminary investigation by the Salem Police Department has determined that speed and alcohol were factors in this crash," Dolan added. "The crash remains under investigation by the Salem Police Collison Analysis and Reconstruction Team (CAR), along with Salem detectives, and more information about the results of the investigation will be released when it becomes available." At the time of the crash, Silver Brook Road was closed for a number of hours during the investigation. Got a news tip? Send it to [email protected].
