BERKELEY, CA — A gun violence suspect surrendered to authorities after a "high-risk" search and arrest warrant was served, the Berkeley Police Department said.
A Special Response Team (SRT) was summoned Friday morning at around 7 a.m. to the 2700 block of Acton Street to serve the warrant, police said.
SRT officers formed a perimeter around the suspect's residence and used trained negotiators to speak with the suspect by phone according to police.
"After communicating with the suspect, the suspect surrendered, exited the residence and was arrested without further incident," the BPD said in a statement.
Detectives on scene were able to search the residence for further evidence related to the search warrant. The investigation of this case is ongoing according to police.
"The safety and security of the residents of Berkeley are always our priority," police said in a statement.
"In this operation, we are thankful that we were able to bring this incident to a peaceful conclusion using specially trained personnel from the Special Response Team and Detectives Bureau."
