TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Alabama Crimson Tide saw two baseball standouts selected Monday in day two of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft. Tide infielder Peyton Wilson was selected with the 66th pick overall by the Kansas City Royals in the draft's second round of compensatory selections. Right-handed pitcher Dylan Smith was then taken with the 74th overall selection in the third round by the Detroit Tigers. Wilson, a sophomore from Hoover, was a second team All-SEC selection in 2021 after hitting .290 on the season with nine home runs and 31 RBIs. He is the younger brother of former Tide quarterback John Parker Wilson and Alabama baseball star Ross Wilson. According to MLB.com, Wilson's pick is valued at $1 million, while Smith's has an estimated value of $844,200. Smith, a junior from Stafford, Texas, finished the 2021 campaign with 3.84 ERA over 16 starts, along with earning a place on the All-Tournament team during the NCAA Regional in Ruston, Louisiana. His decision to go the college route also vastly improved his draft stock, after being taken in the 18th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres out of high school.
