4 Forsyth County Grads Recognized As National Merit Scholars

CUMMING, GA — Four recent Forsyth County high school graduates are among more than 1,000 additional Merit Scholarship recipients from around the county who will receive funding for college over the next four years. The recipients, who were announced Monday, join more than 3,100 other National Merit Scholarship award winners named earlier this year. Officials of each sponsor college or university selected scholarship winners from among the finalists of the National Merit Scholarship Program. College-sponsored financial awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution sponsoring the award. The following Forsyth County students are recognized as National Merit Scholars: Akram M. FarazAlliance Academy for InnovationProbable career field: Healthcare National Merit - University of Georgia ScholarshipBeatrice V. EvansForsyth AcademyProbable career field: AstronomyNational Merit - The University of ArizonaAryan ThakurDenmark High SchoolProbable career field: BiotechnologyNational Merit - University of Georgia ScholarshipAkshitha D. SurapaneniSouth Forsyth High SchoolProbable career field: Neuroscience National Merit - Emory University Scholarship More than 4,100 National Merit Scholarships were awarded by 160 (85 private, 75 public) colleges and universities across the country. The scholarship recipients will receive a total of nearly $30 million.
